Food and water are essential to our body and so is sleep. A lot of people don’t get enough sleep as is required. You will begin to notice symptoms of sleep deprivation if you are not getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep will make you be prone to accidents, judgment impairment, and lots more. It affects both adults and children and can be a danger to our health. Here are ten (10) most common symptoms that you are not getting enough sleep.
Symptoms of Sleep Deprivation
1. Constant Yawning
When you are tired, yawning is automatic. This is how the body responds to tiredness. When you are yawning, this is a sign that you have been tired for a long period of time which can be because of depression or insomnia.
If you happen to be yawning and you don’t have a neurological disorder or taking a medication that has to yawn as a side effect. Then, your yawning is due to sleep debt. You have deprived yourself of the sleep that is required for you on daily basis.

When you are sleep-deprived it tends to affect your mood making one grumpy and irritated. Concentrating becomes difficult and your energy level tends to take a dip. Overreacting becomes second nature once we are lacking sleep and become less excited even though we are excited about such things. Sleep Scientists have discovered that sleeplessness and mood disorders are related. If people have poor quality sleep it tends to affect their moods.
If you are sleep-deprived, your moods tend to be on the negative side and when prolonged can lead to depression and anxiety. It is important you balance those two aspects of your life.

If you are depressed, it is most likely you are suffering from a lack of sleep or not sleeping for long. The most common symptom of depression is insomnia. Napping is beneficial as it helps you to relax, reduce fatigue, increase alertness, improve mood, and improve performance. But when you nap at the wrong time or for too long it can make you grumpy, irritated, moody, and more tired instead of feeling relaxed.

They also tend to focus more on reward than considering the outcome of a loss in making decisions. Try and get enough sleep especially when your work requires judgment with your level of functioning as a profession.
10. Increased Health Problems
When you lack sleep, certain illnesses worsen. Health problems associated with sleep deprivation include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, obesity, depression, impairment in immunity, and lower sex drive.
Lack of sleep can affect your visions, leaving dark circles and wrinkling while affecting your appearance. Sleep deprivation is also known to increase stress hormones, cortisol, and short-term memory loss.

People who sleep late and wake up early are labelled as productive. Sleeping less is recognized even though it should be frowned upon. Getting enough sleep is not a priority on most people’s lists.
