Nafisa Abdullahi is one of the most popular Kannywood actresses. Apart from appearing in more than 70 movies, she is also a producer, director, and businesswoman. But that hasn’t been without its fair share of controversies.
For example, in 2013, the actress was suspended by the disciplinary committee of the Arewa Filmmakers Association of Nigeria. This was after she failed to appear before the committee after being summoned for organizing a banned event by the followers of the Hausa movie industry. The suspension was later lifted in 2014.
Her public breakup from fellow actor Adam Zango, to whom she was engaged at one point, was also highly controversial.
Also, recently, the actress was in the news asking parents to “Stop giving birth to babies you know you can’t afford to take care of.” The remark attracted many comments and criticisms, including her feud with a fellow industry colleague, Nazir Sarkin Waka.
However, one of the most significant sources of controversy for the actress is her mode of dressing. But before we discuss that, let’s look at Nafisa Abdullahi’s dressing evolution through the years.
Nafisa Abdullahi’s Dressing Evolution
2010 – 2013
This was when the actress blew with the release of the hit Sai Wata Rana in May 2010. The actress was all about ‘Atamfa’ and veil, English wears and ‘Indian dressing’ as was the trend then.
2014 – 2016
This period represents the early Instagram era. The actress has already become an A-list actress at this point. Her dressing style has switched to the more flamboyant and trendy fitted styles.
2017 – Now
By 2017, the actress’s dressing style had become bolder, as evident in the picture below in the trailer for the movie ‘Yaki a Soyayya’, released in 2018.
Controversy about Indecent Dressing
After the actress spoke out against ‘giving birth to children one can’t take care of,’ the actress was accused of ‘immorality’ and ‘indecent dressing’ by commentators.
According to @munawar_sidi on Twitter; “Nafisa Abdullahi has lost moral right to condemn and parents that send their children to Almajiri as responsible. If her parents allow her to become a Kannywood to snap & sharing quasi-naked pics on social media, why’d her parents that send their children to learn Qur’an?”
The pictures of a lady alleged to be Nafisa in a swimming pool with a swimsuit turns out to be of someone else.
Most Controversial Clothing Yet
While all this had passed, then came Eid. For her Eid outfit, the star decided to don a full Babbar Riga kaftan and a matching cap.
While many fans have showered her with praises and well wishes, many were quick to point out this is not permissible in her religion.
According to _Mahmud_Yakubu on Instagram, “U guys are all shouting wow oooh leading her astray. Plsss Nafisa imitating or wearing the clothes of the other sex is haram. Let’s be guided plsss”
For flex__nazee, he commented: “But this is against Islamic teaching. U need to go back to islamiyya.“
Umar Faruk Madachima on Facebook said; “Subhanallah. It’s totally forbidden (haram) for a woman to wear men’s clothes. And vise versa,” to which someone replied, “They knew but they don’t care.”
Despite the criticisms, the actress has yet to delete the pictures or address the concerns. She has since posted more photos, including one of her in a hotel lobby on the18th of May 2022.
